Creating A Box Project

My inspiration for this project came from photographs I had taken when walking in downtown Geneva.  I was then able to translate these photos into designs made out of 4x6 inch pieces of chipboard, which I afterwards constructed into partially enclosed boxes.

This project, in particular, encouraged an in depth observation of positive and negative space interacting with light.

A Site-Specific Installation

This project is a site specific installation project, which was designed for a forested area in Geneva, New York.

My intent for the installation itself was to interact on a personal level with the natural surroundings.   Inside, a visitor would be able dangle their legs over the stream as it passes underneath them.  Two skylights were made so that the visitor could enjoy a calming ambient light.  Lastly, the front opening of the installation was decidedly positioned towards an open valley and sunset for the viewer to enjoy.

Viewfinder for Downtown Geneva

For this project, I selected an empty parking lot as my viewfinder's site location.  At my site, there was a beautiful mural placed next to both an abandoned set of warehouses and a thriving downtown city street.  I felt that the area told a story of the past, present, and future.  From this understanding I built a device which encouraged a passerby to stop and look at the area through a new lens-  to reveal a different perspective.
